The Story

From Drums and Synth to the Decks

I was tuned into music from a very young age. My earliest memories being fascinated by how the bass and treble control sliders on my parents huge stereo console could completely change the way a song sounded and felt. I started playing drums, and the synthesizer in the mid-1980s, and that's when the obsession really took hold: jamming and performing with friends, chasing the sound of a live room and great performance. Learning rhythms, textures, beats on drums and drum machines, learning cords and melodies and composition. Then eventually diving into the engineering side to get the best possible sound out of every performance.

In the early 1990s I broke in radio in the Los Angeles area, shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the biggest names in the market, watching them broadcast live in-studio. I was hooked. Around that same era I was playing in many bands and signed to a label, right before Nirvana changed the entire music scene. I played many clubs across LA including the Roxy, I recorded three studio albums and jammed with more musicians than I can count.

Eventually I moved to an area and noticed live music wasn't as present in the local event market as it was elsewhere. But weddings, dances, and parties still needed that same energy. I believe music brings people together in a way almost nothing else can, so I picked up the decks and put everything I'd learned about music, performance, sound, and reading a room into DJing. Professionally, since February 2013. It's become an artform to me. Not just pressing play.
